Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. However, this isn't the truth. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew every dance partner she met. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in the school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual show. She was given the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. The most notable was when she landed Rita's role in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member for the season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
